The cocktail that pays tribute to the beauty of Venice – Italian Cuisine

The Riva Lounge of the Gritti Palace in Venice pays tribute to the beauty of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute with a special basil drink. It's called Basil-ica. Here is the recipe, for a special aperitif

The Riva Lounge of the Gritti Palace Venice is probably the place with the most comfortable chairs on the entire planet. It is because – as the name implies – the furnishings are cared for by the prestigious Lombard brand of yachts and luxury boats, a true champion in terms of comfort. Yet, despite the screams of joy from the back and derrière, this is not what makes the terrace of the historic Venetian hotel special. Yes, because even if you raise your eyes from your table for even a moment you can be struck by the beauty of the Grand Canal, with its characteristic buzz of gondolas and various ferries. But above all by the majesty of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, which stands out in all its elegance beyond the water, a few tens of meters away.

Between Basilica and Basilico

And that's how it is Cristiano Luciani, head barman of the Gritti terrace, thought it well to pay homage to this wonderful postcard view by creating a special drink. The Basilica, in this case, is reflected in a fragrant ingredient, its almost homonymous: basil. Top the glasses then for the Basilica, a new alternative for a perfect Venetian-style toast. «Despite seeing the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute practically every day, I never get tired of its beauty, the bartender tells us, «and all the guests of our hotel fully agree. So I thought about dedicating her a drink, playing with words and inserting basil into the recipe, together with gin, St. Germain and a few drops of bitters . The result is a fresh and particularly aromatic cocktail, which can also be prepared at home as an aperitif following the recipe below.

Basil-ica, the recipe

5 cl of gin
2 cl of St. Germain
3 drops of Orange Bitter
Basil leaves

Method

Pass 5 basil leaves in the glass to give the glass the right aromatic notes.
Pour the ingredients into the glass with plenty of ice.
Mix and decorate with an orange twist and 3 basil leaves.

Peaches allied to beauty and well-being: that's why they do well

If the apricot is 'the orange of summer', it is perhaps the peach that is the fruit of the summer and of the holidays par excellence. Flavor of the sea, where it can be rinsed in salted water, the sweet taste of fresh rest. Just a pleasure, or even health food? The answer is number two: le peaches they are a gift from Welfare.

We have already learned to choose, preserve and enjoy them. Now let's deepen their health properties. First of all they are rich in water and fibers and keep an assortment remarkable of minerals – primarily potassium, whose deficiency can be responsible for tiredness and muscle weakness and cramps. The presence of vitamins is also excellent, especially C and A. The latter is especially valuable for the health of the skin, and those who eat peaches can rest assured of giving a touch of color and beauty to your complexion. And then – how not to love them for this! – they are packaged with antioxidants of various kinds and kinds, all ready to help us prevent diseases and aging.

Vitamins and antioxidants, including vitamin E and selenium, also help detoxify the body system. Peaches increase the sense of satiety, and therefore, thanks above all to the fibers they contain, they are excellent for those who have the goal of losing weight.

Not for nothing have they been much appreciated in folk medicine, both Western and Eastern and in particular Chinese for centuries, given that – it may surprise us Mediterraneans – if there is a country in the world for peaches, that's China. The properties are cleansing and digestive, and then many others, ranging from candida to anemia. Several scientific studies have even examined the properties of cancer prevention: a 2014 study found that the polyphenols present in selected peaches inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells in breast tumors. Finally, the benefits of peaches would also be on the psyche, and in particular these fruits would help reduce stress.

Don't mind the peel: on the tongue the sensation changes a lot depending on the variety, and sometimes it is too hard and above all a little hairy … In most cases, however, it is good on the palate and does really well: most of the fibers, for example, are contained just in the peel, as well as many vitamins that – like so many other fruits – are in its skin but not necessarily in the pulp. One more reason to buy organic peaches, and not risk filling up on vitamins and pesticides.

Last detail, the peach, cha is part of the family of roses, in Chinese mythology is symbol of longevity: the Immortals fed on this fruit, in fact associated with the God of longevity and health …

Wellness: Cherries, seasonal beauty care – Italian Cuisine

160779

It is said that one throws the other. And it is also said that eating them directly from the tree (like all fruits) is one of the great pleasures of life. And then what beautiful are they cherries, red with a vermilion red, round, perfumed, small, usable, sweet. In short, it seems that this fruit that in the end is quite ephemeral (at the end of June it has already exhausted its best period, in Piedmont the little worms are called giuanin, because they begin to be seen after June 24, San Giovanni) has so many and such advantages to make it an icon of beauty and health.

160779They are anti-aging and help renew the skin
In fact, cherries are not only great allies of the health, but also of the beauty and in particular they are fundamental for the care of the skin. Thanks to carotenes and mineral salts, they help protect it from the sun and obtain a natural and homogeneous tan. Finally they are good for legs, thanks to their remarkable diuretic powers, and counteract the problems of circulation, cellulite and capillary fragility. IS at the dawn of summer, just amber, the legs begin to show themselves in all their beauty and their care, we women know well, it becomes the focus of the treatments. Therefore this sweet and juicy fruit is often used in masks and in regenerating packs or as a natural scrub for the body, thanks precisely to its exfoliating powers.

160783For a natural peeling
In fact, cherries are rich in alpha hydroxy acids, substances that exfoliate the skin, making it softer and brighter, and help it renew itself. They contain vitamins and minerals that transmit energy and antioxidants that counteract free radicals, are very moisturizing and soothe inflammation.

And again perfume and color
In the beauty sector then the cherry is considered a queen. Experts have renamed it cherry-mania referring to the trend that most people want lipsticks to the scent or color of cherry. The cherry can therefore be considered a muse in the beauty sector, and for color and perfume. One of the most popular fruity notes in perfumery it is precisely that of cherry, which characterizes many fragrances, but which in reality is not extracted from the essence of the fruit, being simply a wise imitation of it.

160781A curiosity
Legend has it that Ludovico Ariosto went mad and that, especially during his tenure as Governor of Garfagnana, annexed at that time to the Este Duchy of Ferrara, it consumed a large amount. Above all it seems that he was a strong consumer of cherry soup, refining a recipe handed down by the shepherds that cooked the cherriestheand in milk sweetened with honey and butter is when the sauce obtained was very tight, they spread it on bread. The possible variations of the Ariosto soup are obviously many, such as the one with savoiardi and ricotta which consists in enriching the whole with ricotta beaten by hand (to incorporate air and make it more creamy) to spread over a layer of soaked ladyfingers. And above all the cherry sauce.

175354Looking for the perfect one
But does the perfect cherry exist? The cherry season has begun, which marks the summer, but which is also very ephemeral. And we talk about it a lot, wondering what the identikit of the perfect cherry is. In the last International Cherry Symposium, held in Vignola (Modena), which boasts protected excellence, some essential characteristics have been written: the real cherry has to be productive, with a homogeneous and sustained caliber (greater than 26 mm ), resistant to diseases. In addition, it has good organoleptic properties, ie sweetness, consistency and crunchiness, it must be able to resist cracking and have a good hold both on the tree and after harvesting and, last but not least, it must know how to adapt, in times of changes climate.

But then are we sure that we write cherries? Yes, but if there was doubt, rest assured that you are not alone. There is also tolerance for the version without "i". So much so that a book by Oriana Fallaci was called A hat full of cherries. Without i.
