Blue Monday, what it is and the foods that help to deal with it


Monday, January 21st is the saddest day of the year. Here's what to eat to fight sadness, bad mood and be more sprint

The Monday it's the most difficult day of the week to deal with. After the weekend, it is easy to find yourself with little energy, with the mood in pieces and with little desire to dive into the weekly routine. But there is a Monday of the year that has a reputation for being the most depressing of all: the Blue Monday.

What is that? It is about the third Monday of January which in recent times has earned the title of "Sadder day of the year" because of a series of variables and calculations like the weather, the hours of light less, the number of days that separate us from Christmas.

In reality there is very little scientific: this event, in fact, seems to have been born years ago for a publicity stunt of an English travel agency. But the fact remains that Monday is always a difficult day to face and that moodiness, tiredness and lack of concentration are often around the corner. To counter the "negative" effects of Monday also feeding can help us. Let's see together with the nutritionist Valentina Schirò, biologist nutritionist specializing in food science, which foods to choose not to be put on the carpet by sadness and bad mood and be more sprint.

2 cook porridge


In a large pot, bring the water to a boil, salt to taste. Pour the cornmeal to rain, stirring well with a whisk to prevent lumps.
Add butter and Parmesan and cook for about 7-8 minutes.

Transfer the polenta to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, level the surface and let it cool.
When it is cold, cut it into cubes (or, alternatively, you can crumble the polenta with your fingers).

Meanwhile clean the mushrooms and slice them, then let them flavor in a pan with a sauté of garlic and oil. Season with salt and pepper and cook for a few minutes over medium heat.

When the mushrooms are ready, transfer half of the cubes of polenta to the bottom of the hinged mold covered with parchment paper, lightly compacting.
Add the sautéed mushrooms and the diced cheeses, then cover them evenly with the remaining polenta.

Sprinkle the surface of the crumble with a little grated Parmesan and add a few tufts of butter.
Then cook in a preheated oven at 180 ° C for about 30 minutes, or until the surface is golden and crisp.

Your crumbled polenta is ready, serve immediately to keep the filling warm and stringy.

White chocolate cake spoons

These white chocolate cake spoons are great fun for kid’s parties. They can be decorated with sprinkles, edible glitter, chocolate or marshmallows. They can be coordinated to any colour and or theme you are planning. So simple to make, you could the kids involved in the decorating too. Watch them disappear in minutes.

Ingredients

  • 300g sponge cake, shop bought or home made
  • 150g white chocolate melted

To decorate:

  • 300g melted chocolate or candy melts of your choice
  • 12 disposable spoons
  • Sprinkles or grated chocolate

Make the balls smaller for bite size treats.

Method

  1. You will need a baking sheet covered in baking parchment. Cut you cake into squares and blitz in the food processor to make into crumbs. Pour into a mixing bowl and pour over the melted chocolate
  2. Mix together. Divide the mixture into 12 and form into balls
  3. Place on a baking sheet to chill for at least 30 minutes
  4. When cold and set, place ½tspn of chocolate on each soon. Dip each ball into the melted chocolate or candy melts, place on a spoon and cover with sprinkles or grated chocolate. Place onto the baking sheet and leave to set hard before serving
