January festivals (and other greedy events of the month)


From the Festival of Mantuan cuisine to the Cacio e pepe festival, here are the food and wine events to be marked on the agenda

Epiphany takes all the holidays away … but the January 17 it begins again! This is the date we celebrate Saint Anthony Abbot with bonfires lit in many countries and neighborhoods, around which to enjoy hot pancakes, mulled wine and other typical products such as casoncelli of Castelcovati (Bs). For those who, despite the holidays just past, are looking forward to this and other greedy events, here are some of the events scheduled for January.

Trentino tripe

Few people know it but also in Trentino there is a tradition linked to tripe. Until January 19th the Pineta Hotel della Val di Non organizes the Trentino Trippa Festival with dinners dedicated to this dish hosting several chefs from the region. Wednesday, January 15 will be proposed the "Wayfarer Soup with tripe and cod" and "Tripe in all its versions". Nonese tripe can be enjoyed in the restaurants of some of the best young chefs in Trentino: the Viridis restaurant in Cagnò, the Locanda Alpina in Brez and the La Filanda restaurant in Denno.

Happycheese in Trentino

Take the Dolomites cheeses, the Trentino wines, the Trentodoc mountain bubbles or the local craft beer. Then put the snow, the ski slopes, the breathtaking landscapes. The result? They are the fun and delicious appetizers of Happycheese, the festival that starts again on January 25th in Moena and January 29th in San Martino di Castrozza. Discover all the appointments in the refuges, restaurants and pizzerias of the Val di Fassa and Val di Fiemme.

Mantuan cuisine festival

From January 19 back to its seventh edition, at the Palabam in Mantua, the Mantuan cuisine festival which will offer typical dishes of the city cuisine, prepared by local gastronomic associations, and which, new this year, will also host a vast exhibition-market. Every weekend until February 24, every Saturday evening for dinner and every Sunday for lunch and dinner, you can taste shin, ribs, stew, pike in sauce, polenta and mushrooms, parmesan and mustard, shoulder, cheeses and many new features such as tirabega, sweets and typical Mantuan wines selected by the Organization.

Cacio e Pepe Festival in Rome (and where else!)

From 17 to 19 January Eataly Roma celebrates one of the most famous dishes of the Roman tradition with the Cacio e Pepe Festival which returns to via Ostiense: all the proposals created by Roman restaurateurs and artisans, from Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe di Felice to Testaccio alla Fettuccina with cheese, pepper and cod from the Osteria Verbano up to the small Maritozzo with cheese, pepper and ricotta di Monforte. A cooking course is also scheduled to learn how to prepare this dish, challenges between food bloggers and live performances by bands and songwriters.

Rum and noir in Milan

Put a restaurant, rum tastings, a noir story, writers and journalists and here is the perfect evening of the Zacapa Noir Festival, the review of literary dinners created by the Guatemalan rum that starts again in Milan from 22 January. A calendar of 19 meetings and a large parterre of writers including Jeffery Deaver, Luis Sepúlveda, André Aciman, Marco Malvaldi, Alan Parks, Alicia Gimenez-Bartlett, Ryan Gattis, Miriam Toews, Maurizio de Giovanni, Tayari Jones flanked by moderators such as Carlo Lucarelli, Valeria Parrella, Paolo Roversi, Giacomo Papi, Nadia Terranova, Valerio Varesi and Piero Colaprico. Meeting place will be the MEMO Restaurant, a restaurant, former cinema-theater, which preserves the flavor of the iconic jazz clubs, with a refined selection of live music that will accompany a tasting dinner, before introducing the talk of the guests of the evening.

Waiting for The Milan Coffee Festival comes the Coffee Club, with a series of exclusive events organized for coffee lovers

From November 30th to December 2nd back to Italy The Milan Coffee Festival, to the Superstudio Più from Milan. The novelty of the 2019 edition? Comes the Coffee Club, a place designed to give life to a real community of coffee lovers, who will also have the opportunity to take part in a series of Rendez Vous exclusive and free in the weeks preceding the inauguration. Subscribing to The MCF Coffee Club will also guarantee thefree access at the festival.

Coffee cocktails from Riviera

The first appointment will be held on Wednesday November 13th, at 18.00, from RIVIERA, in Via Gorani 4, where it will be possible to discover coffee based cocktail and explore the new creative space conceived and curated by Riccardo Crenna and Simona Flacco. It will also be possible to admire the temporary exhibition Specific Objects in the company of the curator Federica Sala.

Brew it yourself

Thursday 21 November, starting at 9.30 am, from Fusillo Lab, in via Privata Vivarini 7, the photographer Michael Gardenia will open the doors of its space guiding guests in the preparation of the perfect breakfast and in the drawing of one specialty coffee. There will be tips on how to capture this moment to share it on social media.

Love & flakes and some coffee

Thursday 27 November at 18.30 in Via Fiori Chiari, 14: an exclusive living room in the heart of Brera will welcome the conversations that, between a cup of coffee and the other, Giulia Torelli held together with the journalist Annalia Venice and guests, giving valuable advice on how to manage thelove at the time of social media.

Milan becomes the capital of wine: here are the best events not to miss at the week of wine

From the 6 to 13 October returns Milan Wine Week, with its second edition. Saturday 5 October we start with a big opening event in City Life, where a record toast will be held with Trentodoc and a live performance by Paolo Piva (RDS) e Funkasin Street Band.

Among the more than 300 events that will enliven the whole city, there are some really unmissable ones. Discover them below.

Monday 7 October

From 15.30 to 21.30 the Palazzo Bovara (Corso Venezia, 51) will host the Franciacorta Festival, which will see as many as 42 wineries gathered to meet operators, industry experts and wine lovers with tasting stalls of the producers and tastings. (From 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm: entrance reserved for the press and operators. – From 6.00 pm to 9.30 pm: opening to the public.)

Moreover, every morning, from 7.30 am to 10.30 am, the Senate Caffè del Senato Hotel Milan (the only urban Franciacorta Bar in the world) will propose a sparkling awakening with the Franciacorta Breakfast: a glass of Franciacorta paired with the exclusive Salmon Coda Nera Riserva, as well as the sweet and savory buffet.

Corporate culture in the Alps-Adriatic lands"Is the main theme of the three days of meetings, show cooking and tastings that on 7-8-9 October will bring together in Milan, in the Flagship Store space Itlas (via Melchiorre Gioia 35) seven brands from Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Slovenia and Istria : Sarah's Vineyard, Itlas, Amorim Italia, Saffron, Electrolux Professional, Olio Mate and Tomaz Kavcic. Free and free admission (from 5.00 pm) subject to availability.

Wednesday 9, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 October

From 5pm to 11pm evenings Aperivino from Eataly Emerald. Among these, on 9 October at 6.30 pm there will be a special tasting meeting with Marjan Simčič, a Slovenian producer who stands out for the cultivation and production of grapes using natural methods. The matching food proposal will be curated by Dok dall’Ava, San Daniele ham producers who will have a temporary restaurant at Eataly Smeraldo for the entire month of October.

Wednesday 9 October

Bisol1542 will host the press lunch "Bisol1542 & the East. Prosecco Superiore and fusion cuisine ", an event that will allow you to discover all the souls of the Prosecco Superiore di Valdobbiadene DOCG signed Bisol 1542 at Palazzo Bovara combined with the Japanese-glocal kitchen by Ada & Augusto.

From 7pm to 9pm, fun with #enJeio Party, at the Terrazza12 of the Brian & Barry Building: aperitif with DJ set based on Prosecco Superiore, friends and good music. During the evening it will be possible to learn about Jeio, a DOCG Prosecco line with a young and dynamic soul.

Friday 11 October

The new label Ferrari Maximum Blanc de Blancs will be the protagonist of an event open to the public by appointment a Palazzo Bovara, where to discover the new Trentodoc and celebrate #ToTheMaximum with the music of Andrea & Michele from Radio Deejay.

Ferrari will also propose throughout the week "A Ferrari to Creativity Brindisi", in collaboration with The Triennale, by offering a glass of bubbles to those who present themselves, showing, in addition to the Museum ticket, the voucher that can be downloaded on the Milan Wine Week website.

Every day at Peck's

In the historic site of Via Spadari 9, the gourmet coffee The Little Peck will give space to small producers: every day it will be possible to discover different wines from smaller companies that stand out for the excellence of their proposal. The unmissable stage is the Sancta Sanctorum, Peck's wine shop, where during the week, bottles of historic Bordeaux vintages will be opened as a surprise.

In addition to Al restaurant Peck, also Peck CityLife will offer special menus and itineraries dedicated to Milan Wine Week, while in the shop Peck Porta Venezia (via Salvini 3) wine and salami tastings will be held to discover the secrets of a perfect match.
