Wine Enthusiast awards an Italian winery for the first time – Italian cuisine reinvented by Gordon Ramsay


For the first time an Italian wine company is crowned as “Innovator of the Year”: it happened the other evening at Easter Wines for the twenty-fourths Wine Enthusiast’s Annual Wine Star Awards: Congratulations! Riccardo and Alessandro Pasqua received the prestigious recognition during the ceremony held at the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami, together with other leaders of the global wine industry.

Pasqua Vini for “Innovator of the Year”

Pasqua Vini, the Veronese winery, standard bearer of Amarone della Valpolicella and Venetian wines in the world, wins as “Innovator of the year” with the following motivation: «Despite having been founded in 1925, Pasqua Vini continues to look to the future as ‘House of the Unconventional’. Under the leadership of the third generation of the family, represented by the CEO Riccardo Pasqua and President Easter USA Alessandro Pasquathe winery has launched a series of new wines, including the line Never say neverwhich includes a Cabernet Sauvignon and an Oseleta blend.”

For the company, this is the second nomination among the magazine’s awards, after last year it was included in the five finalists in the “European Winery of the Year” category. On that occasion Wine Enthusiast defined it as “an international research laboratory”.

In the motivation supporting the nomination, Wine Enthusiast he continued as follows: «the company can count on a team of people of nine different nationalities, coming from five continents, who compare and dialogue to produce the best possible wine. The company continues to push itself further in research into winemaking style and techniques and this has helped it to control strategic markets such as the United States and Asia.”

Innovation and research are a distinctive and recurring trait of Pasqua’s culture, vision and style which permeates daily action from the vineyard to the cellar.

Guido Berlucchi received the important recognition for having made the history of the Italian classic method sparkling wine

In the year that celebrates the 60th anniversary of the first bottle of Franciacorta, created by Franco Ziliani in 1961, Guido Berlucchi receives the title of Cellar of the Year 2022.

The recognition assigned by Gambero Rosso is added to that already obtained in the spring by Wine Spectator, which attributed to its top wine, the Palazzo Lana Extreme 2009, The highest score (93) ever achieved by a Franciacorta in a year which – despite its structural difficulty – represents a turning point for the company to face a phase of profound innovation, new challenges and revolutionary market scenarios.

"This award celebrates the care that everyone, in every field and department, puts into their work: all together, WE ARE the Winery of the Year!" declares the Ziliani family. "We are recognized at the pinnacle of excellence not only for our wines – whose undisputed quality is confirmed again this year by the 3 glasses of Gambero Rosso to our ’61 Franciacorta Nature 2014 – but for all of our work".

The presentation of the Wines of Italy 2022 guide will take place on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 October at the "Rome Marriott Park Hotel", where the wines that have won the Tre Bicchieri will be tasted.
