Grandma's village cake recipe

There country cake, also called milk cake, is a traditional Lombard recipe, particularly from the Milan area. Grandmothers especially remember it well, because it is a dessert created to reuse dried bread.

This typical cake from Brianza is a dessert with ancient origins, let’s say the typical dessert of Sunday in the countryside. It certainly has many variations, like all simple recipes, but traditionally it is always made with bread soaked in milk.

In fact, this is how it was born: on this basis of bread stalethe ingredients that the farmers found at home were added, such as dried fruit, raisins and, for those who had the possibility, fine pine nuts or dark chocolate flakes.

The recipe we propose today includes the addition of amaretti, cocoa, pine nuts, raisins And candied fruit! We didn’t want to limit ourselves to just a few ingredients, but we preferred to offer you a complete dessert full of different flavours. So much so that there’s even lemon zest!

The rustic flavor of this cake will not disappoint you: it is so simple that it can accompany you from breakfast to snack time. And for those with a sweet tooth, even for an after-hours snack! Try it too bread, pear and peach cake!
