Susafa, the good of Sicily in your home

Directly from the Sicilian countryside a selection of healthy and sustainable products: pasta, flour, jam, tomato sauce and extra virgin olive oil. To eat well and become a true modern farmer

Almost a year after the outbreak of the health emergency, it is time to take stock and reflect on the daily lifestyle. In recent months, spent between lockdowns and social distancing, we have become more aware of the importance of a correct diet that respects the environment, the cycle of seasons, animals and people. Therefore, it is better to start the year immediately with the good intentions to implement, facilitated by the well-established habit of home deliveries. Here is a proposal, to eat well, which comes from Sicily.

Become a modern farmer

Among the hills of the Madonie area, in the Palermo hinterland, there is a virtuous peasant reality committed to defending the cultural identity of this unspoiled corner of the countryside. It is difficult to define with a single word what it is Susafa: according to the most authoritative American press it is a country boutique hotel (awarded by Condé Nast for its excellent hospitality service) which in 2020 started an adoption project – a tree or a plot of land – to receive directly at home a selection of products from the short chain, without intermediate steps: "This is an environmental sustainability initiative based on food consumption that aims to create a network of modern farmers, or virtuous consumers", says the patron Manfredi Rizzuto. "We want to lead the user to grasp the value of nature and the earth, and experience sustainable agriculture naturally inserted within the cycle of the seasons".

Adopt a tree or a wheat field

Joining the initiative is very easy, just connect to the appropriate section of the Susafa e-shop to create your pantry: you can adopt a plant (olive, cherry, tomato) or a portion of the vast wheat field that surrounds the farm . Each adoption has a value of € 90 (plus transport costs) and depending on the choice, jars with the delicious cherry jam, cans of organic extra virgin olive oil, the tomato sauce prepared as it used to be, will arrive at home. six types of flours and pasta in four different formats. "There are many reasons why it is convenient to become part of our supply chain", explains Manfredi Rizzuto. "These include the guarantee of healthy eating, supporting a non-invasive agriculture model, knowing seasonal products and keeping the ancient peasant culture alive".

Hospitality according to nature

Who becomes modern farmer, in addition to receiving Susafa products at home (shipments throughout Italy), you will also have a whole series of advantages, such as the ability to observe the growth of your "food" from a webcam, follow cooking classes online with the ladies of the kitchen brigade, find out which seasonal dishes to prepare thanks to the recipe book of the month and, finally, will have a whole series of dedicated discounts for online purchases and stays on the estate. In fact, to fully understand the uniqueness of this project, a trip to the magical world of Susafa is strongly recommended, evidence of an unexpected and at the same time surprising Sicily, out of the usual clichés of beaches crowded with mass tourism. The credit goes to Manfredi Rizzuto, a young entrepreneur who after years spent abroad, between Belgium and Canada, decides to return to his native land to stay there and enhance the family's centenary farm, under the motto: "Hospitality according to nature ".
