The Food System Summit 2021 - Italian Cuisine


The United Nations summit on food systems is held in New York today, 23 September. The United Nations Secretary General has called on governments to "cherish hope for a better future". More than 130 countries announce national commitments on food systems

The Food System Summit 2021 arrived and is held today in the Big Apple. New York is home to more than 90 countries, which will announce their commitments to transform food systems to achieve Sustainable Development Goals proposed at the United Nations Food Systems Summit. The United Nations Food Systems Summit was announced since UN Secretary General, António Guterres, on the occasion of the World Food Day last October. The goal of the summit is to make progress on all 17 objectives (SDGs – Sustainable Development Goals) by leveraging the interconnection of food systems to global challenges such as hunger, climate change, poverty and inequality.

The event, which is the first of its kind and takes place during theUN General Assembly, Should listen to the many world leaders present at the event.
António Guterres, who called the Food Systems Summit in October 2019, urged world leaders to bring "ambitious commitments to fuel the hope of a better future" to New York.
"A well-functioning food system can help prevent conflict, protect the environment and provide health and livelihoods for all," said Guterres. "It is our moral imperative to deliver on our promise to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030".

The summit comes after nearly two years of EU, national and international dialogues involving more than 40,000 people around the world to share their needs, challenges and ideas for a more sustainable, resilient and inclusive food system. During the Summit, countries should announce the results of their national dialogues and their paths of change.
There will be well-known personalities such as: Agnes Kalibata, the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for the Food Systems Summit; Pau Gasol, UNICEF spokesperson for nutrition and against childhood obesity; José Andres, chef and founder of World Central Kitchen; And David Malpass, president of the World Bank.
