From Sicily Fiasconaro's message of hope

Strengthening of the e-commerce service in view of Easter, a food festival in the autumn to revive the economy and the start of a production center of Sicilian excellence: here is the program for today and for the post-Covid-19 future of the maestro Fiasconaro

A message of hope, in these difficult days, that comes from the medieval village of Castelbuono, nestled in an unspoiled Sicily, between the green of the Madonie woods, the blue of the Cefalù sea and the thousand colors of the historic markets of Palermo. To launch it is Nicola Fiasconaro, the master pastry chef who, together with his brothers Fausto and Martino, runs the family confectionery company founded by his father Mario in 1953, a winning model that has created a brand with an international vocation from the island (22 million euros invoiced in 2019 and an export share of 30%). «We must react to this crisis that took us by surprise. At this moment it is important to remain united, giving support to the institutions and the community, also through small gestures of solidarity ".

Easter in the time of the Coronavirus

The Fiasconaro company, despite the difficulties due to the ongoing health emergency, has decided not to suspend its production, both to protect the employment of the 150 workers at the headquarters (in full compliance with the new safety regulations issued by the Government) , both to ensure the production of craft doves ahead of Easter: "It will surely be a surreal day," says Nicola Fiasconaro, "and for this reason we have decided to enhance e-commerce, so as not to miss our doves in the homes of Italians, always a symbol of peace and rebirth: a small gesture to comfort people and keep tradition alive .

The doves of Fiasconaro contain some of the symbolic products of Sicily: almonds, chocolate, manna and pistachios. Among the proposals of the Easter 2020 there will be the timeless Classic Doves and the variants of the Fruit, Gold and Territorial lines. To the delight of the sweet tooth there are Nero Sublime and Oro di Manna, two natural leavened products that enhance all the goodness of Sicilian chocolate.

Future projects

But it does not end here, because the Fiasconaro family, together with all their team, is already working on the organization of a food festival scheduled for autumn: two days in which international buyers, journalists and experts in the sector they will be able to compare and get to know the best of Sicilian food and wine and thus give a new impetus to the local business fabric, once the recovery has begun. «We are facing an unexpected upheaval of what were lifestyles and work habits. One thing is certain: after this crisis the world will change and we hope that change will happen for the better. The idea of the festival was born after the cancellation of all the events and fairs we should have attended in 2020.
You have to react, do not let yourself be discouraged. Now we are calm in facing the present and the future challenges that await us: we want to perfect the confectionery production and, at the same time, develop other sectors through the involvement of small and medium-sized laboratories in the agri-food sector, distributed throughout the region. The goal is to create a production center of excellence made in Sicily ".

Another theme on which the master Fiasconaro insists is that of raising consumer awareness and, more generally, of the institutions on the importance of adopting, now more than ever, a model of agriculture that respects the ecosystem and nature, "too often mortified by 'human action'. Words spoken from the bottom of the heart, with which Fiasconaro wishes to address, to all readers of "La Cucina Italiana", the best wishes for a happy and peaceful Easter.
