Your mum’s best recipes

Mums can pretty much do anything. Not only is our mum the one we turn to when anything goes wrong, she’s also the one we call when we need cookery advice or even just a good hot meal.

Dinners, bakes and puds from Mum are some of the best recipes as they’ve been tried and tested several times and they’ve stood the test of time.

With that in mind, we set out to find the best recipes from your mums and the results were delicious. Take a look…

Cheap healthy meals

Eating healthy meals is important but it can be hard to do it without spending lots of money. We’re here to help.

Healthy eating doesn’t need to cost you a fortune. There are plenty of cheap meals you can eat that are also good for you.

We’ve costed some of our favourite healthy recipes so you can see just how cheap they are. The recipes are usually for 4 but if you are eating separate meals from your family, you can divide the ingredients down to however many servings you want – or make extra and save for another time.

We also think it’s very important to be healthy but not hungry. Our healthy meals may be good for you but they won’t leave you wanting more.

All costs were true at time of writing (May 2013). We assume you have these basic ingredients in your cupboards already:

  • Oil
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Dried herbs and spices
  • Salt and pepper
  • Flour
  • Butter
  • Mayonnaise
  • Stock
  • Milk
  • Tomato purée
  • Mustard
  • Tomato ketchup

Chef John’s On Vacation!

Please Note: Photo is for metaphorical purposes only.
Chef John is not vacationing in the tropics.

There are many things I enjoy about my partnership with Allrecipes – amazing tech support, access to state-of-the-art equipment (I don’t know how to use it, but still), and being able to work with talented, like-minded foodies; but above and beyond that, I love that they actually make me take vacations.

At first, they had to force me to take them, since I was convinced that if I went a week without posting a video, the Internet would implode. After realizing that wasn’t the case, my ego and I relaxed, and now we actually look forward to these mandatory breaks.

Anyway, I’ll be off all this week, and while comments will be published, I’ll not be monitoring the blog, so when it comes to questions and comments, you’ll be at the mercy of fellow foodwishers. Good luck with that. Thanks, and see you next week!
