Francesco Panella returns with Little Big Italy – Italian Cuisine

Little Big Italy in Europe

The journey in search of good Italian food starts from Madrid to then move to Stockholm, Tenerife, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Munich, Brussels, Prague, Marseille and Zurich for a tour of Europe with the forks always raised. The game does not change and Francesco Panella will rely on Italians living abroad to find restaurants that deserve the title of "LITTLE BIG ITALY". In each city, as usual, Francesco will meet 3 Italians, competitors of the challenge, who will take him to eat in their favorite restaurant, the place that makes them feel most at home. The Roman restaurateur and the Italian guests will taste and vote on 3 dishes: the choice of Expat, the chef's main dish and Francesco's desire, an off-menu dish. At the end of each meal there will be a vote. Francesco and the three Italians will have from 1 to 5 tokens for each dish. Francesco will have one more vote, that of Italianness, from one to ten tokens, which can make the difference in proclaiming the winner. Up for grabs for Expat is a bonus card valid for one year to eat free in its favorite restaurant and for the restaurateur the title of the best Little Big Italy restaurant in their city. The magic of the cribs returns to Sutrio – Italian Cuisine

With explosive colors in autumn (as we told you and showed you in the piece on foliage), the Carnia, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, is ready to be admired even in winter, thanks to the exhibition Villages and Nativity Scenes by Sutrio. In this ancient village at the foot of the Zoncolan, just 1200 inhabitants and part of the authentic villages of Italy, are exhibited every Christmas more than 50 nativity scenes in the courtyards of the historic center, filling it with Christmas spirit and magic.

The event, in full compliance with anti-Covid regulations and therefore in a reduced form, will still take place this year, as a symbol of rebirth and hope. The appointment is from 20 December to 6 January 2021, when the stone-paved streets of the village, and the ancient squares, will come alive with reproductions in wood (and not only) of the nativity. The whole town, for the occasion, is festively decorated, with adults recycled wood Christmas trees created by the artisans of the country, lights, wreaths and Christmas compositions. The nativity scenes are made not only by artisans and artists, but also by the inhabitants of Sutrio, who display them in front of their homes, on the windowsills, in the niches of the walls.

The most evocative piece of the event is certainly the Nativity scene of Teno, a true masterpiece of craftsmanship (and patience), created in thirty years by Gaudenzio Straulino (1905-1988), a local master craftsman. Exhibited in an old town house, it reproduces in miniature the traditional uses and customs of the village, which are animated thanks to a series of mechanical gears, with the alternation of day and night, the figures in motion, the water in the streams. More than a crib, that of Teno is an interesting one ethnographic insight on the traditions, life, jobs, customs of the Carnic mountains.

La Douja D'Or, the Piedmont of wine returns – Italian Cuisine

Four weekends dedicated to tastings, masterclasses, but also dinners and lunches dedicated to the gastronomic excellence of a wonderful territory, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco

The good news for all wine lovers and industry experts is that the Douja D'Or, one of the most important oenological events in Asti and in the Monferrato Asti area. For a month, every weekend starting from 11 September and until 4 October, the city and the whole Monferrato countryside will be the stage for events, tastings, visits to cellars and much more.

The event is a real itinerary to discover the wines, but also the territory and the gastronomic specialties of Monferrato. During the weekends of the Douja d'Or it will in fact be possible to taste the local excellences in over 100 restaurants, cafes and farmhouses, scattered around the wonderful hills of Monferrato, declared a World Heritage Site with the Langhe and Roero. The wine consortia instead will take care of organizing tastings, debates and master classes, to make known the wine excellences of the territory.

"The real protagonists are the DOC, DOCG and Igp wines and traditional gastronomic products," said Erminio Renato Goria, president of the Asti Chamber of Commerce which organizes the event. "The event has a courageous new formula", says Goria, "emblem of the restart of a region and an entire nation, for the first national event in attendance at the time of Covid ".

In addition to wine tastings and various delicacies, it will also be possible to carry out walking or cycling, along various routes, all organized by the Langhe Monferrato Roero Tourist Board. For art lovers, the exhibition will open on 19 September Asti city of tapestries, by the Asti Musei Foundation. Finally, for vermouth lovers, every Friday and Saturday at Palazzo Ottolenghi, there will be Vermouth douja, tastings dedicated to the historic flavored wine born in Piedmont.
