Photo Vogue Festival and Audi together for the fifth consecutive year

The house of the four rings continues with the collaboration with Vogue Italia to identify and support the talents of contemporary photography

The synergy between Vogue Italy is Audi which for the fifth consecutive year is Official Partner of Photo Vogue Festival, the first conscious fashion photography festival dedicated to the common ground between ethics and aesthetics. Given the situation caused by the pandemic, the heart of the fifth edition of the Photo Vogue Festival (PVF), organized by Vogue Italia, moves to the digital platform photovoguefestival.vogue.it designed specifically for the event, which hosts exhibitions, talks and screenings.

From 30 October to 30 November 2020 a selection of photographs from the two main exhibitions (All in this together and In the picture – Shifting perspectives in fashion photography) is also exhibited outdoors, on the gates of the perimeter of the Porta Venezia Gardens, to interface and interact with the city of Milan. From 19 November the complete exhibitions will be available on the online platform which from 19 to 22 November will also host events, conferences and portfolio reviews. As with every previous edition, the festival is a unique opportunity for fashion and photography enthusiasts to get in touch with professionals in the sector, from artists to curators, and learn more about the contemporary photographic landscape.

The collaboration between Vogue Italia and Audi, which for the fifth consecutive year is the Official Partner of the Photo Vogue Festival, is based on the identification and support of contemporary photography talents.

The artists, thanks to an out of the ordinary sensitivity, are able to read the present with a keen eye and, at the same time, to intuit and shape the future. A vision of Audi's own, attentive to the design of cars with an unconventional personality, such as the new Audi Q2: an urban SUV where style and cutting-edge technology merge, a perfect car for everyday life that turns into a Personal Accelerator for those guide. Especially for all those independent women who love to achieve their goals without sacrificing elegance and style: the Audi Q2 best reflects this ambition, presenting refined aesthetics and a sensitivity to technological innovation that does not give up on emotions. With these women in mind, Audi and Vogue Italia have identified a young Italian photographer capable of telling the different facets of the female world through her images: Clara Melchiorre.

For the PVF, the artist has created an unprecedented service that pays homage to "progressive women": all those women who, thanks to their choices, become the bearers of change, inspiring and shaping the reality that surrounds them. The images will be visible on the digital platform of the Photo Vogue Festival from November 19th.

"Defending my vision and trusting instinct are challenges I deal with every day and being identified by Audi and Vogue Italia as an Italian artist capable of narrating the female world has enormous value precisely as recognition of the constant research carried out in this sense" , declares the artist Clara Melchiorre. “The woman I represented in these shots embodies all those figures who have left a mark thanks to their sensitivity and courage. The architectural environment is introduced to the viewer by the gestures of the model herself who interprets it. Diverse, elegant and essential are some of the features that unite the architectures chosen by the protagonist of this project: a contemporary heroine, brilliant interpreter of her time. "

To learn more about Clara Melchiorre's projects, on November 20 at 2 pm, the PVF platform will host a meeting by Audi entitled "Tomorrow's Women Today" which will focus on women in the arts. Thanks to the dialogue between the photographer, the writer Sara Rattaro and Alessia Glaviano, artistic director of the Photo Vogue Festival, we will talk about female empowerment and creativity, outlining the profile of today's “progressive women”. It will also be an opportunity to explore the inspirations and motivations underlying the work of the two creative protagonists of the talk.

"All in this together" presents the projects of 30 photographers gathered around the common theme of hope, solidarity, empathy and a sense of community that we have rediscovered while the Covid -19 epidemic scourged, nation after nation, the whole world.
The true meaning of the word community, the true sense of what ultimately defines our humanity, is found in the notes of the Milanese trumpeter who plays "O mia bela Madunina" at the window of his Milanese home during the lockdown, in the improbable silence of the streets, now emptied of people and traffic. When everything seems to collapse and every possible meaning and sense seem to be shipwrecked, only the total, absolute gratuitousness of art, its being refractory to any utility, its being so tragically ephemeral and extemporaneous, can make us rediscover the meaning of life through catastrophe , helping us to "see the stars again". At the heart of this miracle rests another decisive word of the Communitas lexicon: that of gift. Because the music of this trumpeter is simply this: a gift, made of nothing and which changes nothing in concrete reality, nor in the threat that hangs over us, nor in the anguish that grips us. But a gift like this, which it would not be an exaggeration to define as love – and what else is love but a gift – not in spite of but thanks to its exquisite gratuitousness and fragility, is the only thing that can transform the bonds between people, to make them find again in another space where the communitas takes the place of solitude. It seems nothing but that's all.
The 30 photographers were selected through scouting on Photo Vogue, the photographic platform of Vogue.it, by an international jury of experts with different backgrounds, visions and origins, in order to guarantee a perspective that is as inclusive as possible.

"IN THE PICTURE – Shifting perspectives in fashion photography"
Curated by Alexandra von Fuerst, Camila Falquez, Nadine Ijewere and Ruth Ossai

If every image is inherently political, the gesture of choosing what to show and how to show it inevitably also becomes political. Fashion photography is a complex and layered art, a dream factory that increasingly becomes the theater of collective identities. Starting from this awareness, for the fifth edition of the Photo Vogue Festival, we decided to explore a new way to analyze and deepen it: through the dialogue between four of its most brilliant protagonists.

© Camila Falquez

Alexandra von Fuerst, Camila Falquez, Nadine Ijewere and Ruth Ossai are “socially conscious fashion photographers”. They are part of a new generation of artists whose aesthetics are intrinsically a hybrid of genres: in their shots, fashion constantly dialogues with journalism and visual art, and with an introjected need to balance the planes of representation. The work of Camila, Nadine, Ruth and Alexandra talks about gender, feminism and racial imbalances without ever being didactic or banal – on the contrary, it manages to be powerful, intense, pervaded with an original, shining elegance.

There are four artists who work in an industry, that of fashion, which is rethinking from its foundations, and who are not mere observers of this change but among the main driving forces.

For PVF 2020 we have decided to give space to their visions by inaugurating a four-voice dialogue in which the authors are not only protagonists of the exhibition but also curators of the same. The photos exhibited, the exhibition mode and the themes explored are the result of a creative collaboration, including calls on Zoom, shared folders in Dropbox and messages on Whatsapp.

Here comes the festival of the thistle, the bagna caoda and the small onion – Italian Cuisine

Here comes the festival of the thistle, the bagna caoda and the small onion

Appointment on 11 October in Andezeno (TO) with the 45th edition of the festival that celebrates local and native products of the area

If you love the most authentic flavors of Piedmontese cuisine, you will be delighted by the arrival of this historic festival. Ivory white thistle, bagna caoda and flat onion, await us on 11 October in Andezeno a few kilometers from Turin to discover once again the best of these typical products that will be on display with ornamental and edible pumpkins and a collection of potted peppers. and fruits. Do not miss the tasting and take away of the bagna caoda and the good freisa wine served by the proloco of Andezeno.

Andezeno's ivory white thistle

The municipality of Andezeno tells it this way: “The Andezeno Thistle has an ivory white color with narrow, jagged, thorny and particularly tender leaves. (…) The cultivation technique involves the practice of bleaching, which is carried out either by tucking the earth up to two thirds of the plant, or by wrapping it with straw or paper after having tied it up. In this way, the formation of chlorophyll is prevented, as a consequence of the lack of light, and the edible parts are thus white, tender, crunchy and sweet. For conservation, at the first frosts, around S. Martino, the thistles are all collected, tied in bunches and placed in holes of earth with the leaves outside the hole in order to close it. (…) The edible parts of the thistle are tender, crunchy and highly digestible, they are about 70% of the whole plant and are used in many recipes. The taste is slightly bitter. After cleaning, the ribs obtained are deprived of the filaments and boiled in acidulous water with lemon to avoid blackening. The cardoon, both raw and cooked, binds very well with the “Bagna cauda”, a traditional Piedmontese sauce made with anchovies, garlic and oil; it is also excellent paired with eggs and cheese.

Andezeno's flat onion

The municipality of Andezeno tells it this way: “Onion Piatta or Piatli-na: it has a flattened shape and a golden skin; the taste is sweet and not very spicy. It lends itself well to cooking in the oven for which it is highly sought after (stuffed onions). Due to its aesthetic characteristics, it can be confused, on a commercial level, with the flat in Stuttgart ”.

Returning to the pumpkins, after having admired the display, we can buy them in the "House of Pumpkins", Corso Vittorio Emanuele 69, Andezeno, which for 28 years has been completely decorated with hundreds of types of pumpkins in the autumn season.
