The opening event of the Welcome Winter season of 8 December and the Christmas surprises that Courmayeur has reserved for us (including an unpublished Santa Claus)

Admire, ski, walk, taste and refresh. The mountain is a winter dream for all those who love his white coat with which he dresses up. To host sporting activities and offer breathtaking landscapes, but also to give us that air of snow that is breathed only on the summit.

IS Courmayeur invites us to celebrate this magical moment with her. The day December 8th in fact, the center of the country will come alive with the Welcome Winter party, the traditional inauguration of the winter season open to all.

The program

The Welcome Winter 2019 party is preparing to enliven the historic center of Courmayeur with a stage set up to entertain all those wishing to open the winter season with music and shows. Leading the evening from the stage to the Jardin de l'Ange, Enrico Papi and Giorgia Rossi. Guest of honor of the evening will be Noemi, who will perform in an exciting live gospel concert.
To start the festivities, at 6.30 pm, theturning on the big Christmas tree. But also of all the luminous decorations that will start from the center to reach also the neighboring hamlets. Welcome winter and … welcome Christmas. The decorations, the first thoughts on lunch and the purchase of gifts to be exchanged under the tree. The most important holiday of the year is approaching and all that remains is to start planning where and with whom we will spend it. As usual, Courmayeur renews the appointments that will make this party even more magical, but also to promote the fun and relaxation of the whole family. And when it comes to Christmas, we can not forget about him. The Santa to whom we wrote so many letters when we were young and the most awaited guest during Christmas night. Santa Claus has his own version in Courmayeur and is called Rhémy de Noël. This figure of the local folk tradition is a chimney sweep, born on Christmas day. The story tells that the man took a trip to the glaciers of Mont Blanc to understand why the snow, on Christmas Eve, had not yet whitened the country. When he reached the summit, he finally found the snow, trapped by a Giant who was suffering from loneliness: he then decided to stay there and keep him company to free the snow and allow it to continue to fall on Courmayeur. Since then Rhémy de Noël has only come down from the summit on December 24th to give the gifts to the children who show him the way to the valley with a lighted lantern. Also this year, the children will be thrilled to see the arrival at the Maserati Mountain Lounge to light a big lantern, symbolizing friendship and joy.
