Milan Wine Week and then ...: the food and wine events of October


From the Milanese wine week to the mills opened in Umbria through the organic fair, here are the events not to be missed this month

Still many events scheduled for this October have been postponed due COVID-19, but just as many have been rethought in a new key and confirmed ensuring the safety of the participants. Here's what awaits us this month.

Milan Wine Week, the Milanese wine week

Third edition for Milan Wine Week, a Milanese wine event, which this year will be held in the city from 3 to 11 October. The event was rethought in compliance with the limitations useful for countering the coronavirus pandemic through the keywords digitization and internationalization. In addition to the usual busy agenda of meetings and seminars, masterclasses, tastings, walk-around tastings, forums, hundreds of Milanese bars and restaurants will propose particular wine pairings with their offer, both within the facilities and using the delivery services with thematic menus that include a bottle of accompanying wine. Moreover, thanks to the great success achieved during the lockdown period, the Winetelling, digital tastings, led by producers and sector experts, dedicated to wine lovers, connected remotely through the dedicated platform and the social pages of the event will continue. At the MWW Enoteca, an innovative physical wine shop included in theheadquarter of Palazzo Bovara and, at the same time, an e-commerce platform that will allow the public to taste and buy a wide selection of the wines featured in Milan Wine Week.

The grape harvest in the city

Come back from 5 to 11 October in Milan the appointment with The Montenapoleone harvest: from via Montenapoleone to via Sant’Andrea, from via Santo Spirito to via Gesù, from via Bagutta to via San Pietro all’Orto, the Milanese fashion district it will come alive throughout the week with wine tastings from prestigious national and international wineries and exclusive events in luxury boutiques. Moreover, every day, the restaurants of 5-star luxury hotels such as Armani, Bulgari, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Westin Palace, Park Hyatt, Principe di Savoia, as well as Pasticceria Marchesi, Pasticceria Cova and illy Caffé will offer a special La Vendemmia menu at price of 35 euros for lunch and 70 euros for dinner. Guided tours will be offered again with final tastings inside some museum sites in the heart of Milan: the first was on Tuesday 6 October at the Gallerie D’Italia with a focus on the masterpieces of Canova, Hayez and Boccioni; the second at the Casa del Manzoni, Wednesday 7 to discover the intimacy of Alessandro Manzoni's home. Double appointment on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum to discover the anecdotes of the Family and participate in a sensorial tasting. Among the other scheduled activities, the Winery tours with the possibility of visiting some Italian wineries located in the most evocative places of the peninsula.

Six months of Terra Madre from Turin to the world

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, An event dedicated to good, clean and fair food, organized by Slow Food, the City of Turin and the Piedmont Region with the patronage of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Land and the Sea, is back on 8 October in Turin and on the web. The 2020 edition will not last five days as usual, but a full six months: the event will in fact close in April 2021 when the International Slow Food Congress will be celebrated in Turin. To reach as many people as possible in the world, the contents of the event will be available on the event website and will be free, accessible to anyone and subtitled in English and Italian.

Sana: fully organic

Also in 2020 the organic world will meet at Bologna Fairs on the occasion of Healthy, the international exhibition of organic and natural products to be held this year from 9 to 11 October. The three pillars around which the event revolves, Food, Care & Beauty, Green Lifestyle, in this edition is added the new focus "Free from hub", the showcase dedicated to products that are not only natural and organic, but also free from. Other novelties of the edition will be "The way of herbs", the initiative dedicated to medicinal plants and spices and SANA Organic Tea dedicated to all tea lovers.

Golosaria online

From 28 October to 2 November Golosaria returns with an online edition of the fair entitled Food as a new relationship. A schedule full of events and live chats to take part in the event, passing from artisan stands to chefs' stations, from training rooms to direct purchases of products selected by ilGolosario thanks to a dedicated e-commerce area. There will be space for wine with the presentation (scheduled for November 1) of the 100 best wineries in Italy selected by Paolo Massobrio together with Marco Gatti and tutorials for tasting. On November 2, the Agora of Golosaria will be transformed into the Piazza of the great Italian restaurants, with the best Italian restaurants of the IlGolosario guide awarded by Massobrio and Gatti, followed by a talk dedicated to the "general states" of Italian catering.

Mills opened in Umbria

For the 23rd year Open Crushers in Umbria celebrates the arrival of the new extra virgin olive oil in the period of pressing of the olives: from 24 October to 29 November it will be possible to visit the oil mills of the region with the possibility of buying oil directly on site. During the event it will also be possible to participate in initiatives in places that are generally not open to visitors, such as ancient villas, abbeys among olive trees, small abandoned churches, experiencing food and wine, artistic, musical, cultural and naturalistic experiences.

All the pizzas of Italy at Eataly

From 9 to 18 October the stores Eataly host a big party where you can taste all the pizzas of Italy every day, starting from Pizza Eataly up to explore the many variations, from the one to the shovel to the pizza to the pan, from the Genoese to the Bari focaccia, from the farinata to the Ligurian focaccia with cheese . Ten days to discover the traditions and novelties of the pizza world, from north to south. TO Milanin particular, among the guests there will be Ciro Salvo, patron of the pizzeria 50 Kalò and ambassador of Neapolitan pizza in the world for Slow Food, and the award-winning Salvo brothers of San Giorgio a Cremano.

Thanksgiving in Merano

October 17th and 18th there Grape festival to Merano it will contain many cultural and traditional initiatives linked to thanksgiving for the gift of the harvest. The program includes an exhibition of allegorical floats, concerts by marching bands, the Kurhaus walk to admire the saltari (the people who defended the ripe grapes from thieves) and the Jodel walk where everyone will be invited to participate in this typical song of the German Alpine area. There will be masterclasses dedicated to wine with walks in the vineyards or in the city that will end with tastings and the Meranese Market with its rich offer of natural and artisanal South Tyrolean products. Do not go away without tasting the MerKur sweet bread created for the Grape Festival which contains the authentic healing grape from Merano.
