Translated, the name Bubble And Squeak means "bubble and crunch" to recall the sound that is produced during frying.
If you love the savory breakfast, try them!

The Bubble and Squeak recipe

Peeled and cut 500 g of potatoes in cubes, put them in a pan of salted water and cook them on a low heat.
Drain and let cool.
Melt 50 g of butter, add two onions slice and cook over low heat for a few minutes.
Bake 500 g of sprouts steamed and then pour the potatoes and sprouts into a bowl and mash them together.
Add butter and onion and form flattened meatballs similar to small burgers, or make a kind of unique omelette.
Fry them in hot seed oil using a non-stick pan, especially if you opt for the omelette version.
If you are a perfectionist, give your pancakes a triangular shape, as per English tradition.
If, on the other hand, you have no time to lose, cook the whole mixture in a pan with butter or oil without giving it a shape, but stirring everything quickly. You will get a very tasty vegetable cream.

Variant with mixed vegetables

If you don't like sprouts you can replace them with the vegetables you prefer, even with those already cooked and advanced.
Do you have any carrots or steamed courgettes? Cook them in a pan with the onion and butter and add to the potatoes.
The same is also true for leafy vegetables.
Potatoes are the base, but otherwise you can play to add the ingredients you prefer.

How to accompany the Bubble And Squeak

These delicious pancakes are delicious just ready and still hot, but they can be kept for a few days and even cold are very good. You can freeze them once cooked and then heat them in the oven if necessary.
They are usually eaten at breakfast with eggs, beans and bacon, but very often they also come served with roast meat because they absorb the sauce of the seasoning becoming even more tasty.
