Can I do the shopping on the weekend? The new restrictions in Lombardy

After the first ordinance that imposes the curfew starting from Thursday 22 October from 11 pm to 5 am, new restrictions arrive signed by the president of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana to counter the spread of the contagion from covid-19.

In addition to travel ban from 11pm to 5am, except for proven needs to be communicated through aself-certification, i shopping centers will be closed on weekends, while bars and restaurants will have to close earlier.

Shops closed over the weekend: the new anti-coronavirus restrictions

On Saturdays and Sundays, the closure of large sales structures as well as retail businesses inside the shopping centers is arranged. The provision referred to in the previous sentence does not apply to the sale of foodstuffs, as well as pharmacies is parapharmacies and other product categories.

It is mandatory both for retail businesses and for food and beverage outlets to display a sign at the entrance to the venue stating the maximum number of people admitted simultaneously in the same room, based on the protocols and guidelines in force.

These businesses must adopt access rules, based on the characteristics of the premises, in order to avoid gatherings and ensure the maintenance of at least 1 meter of separation between customers. In particular, medium and large sales structures must ensure the provisions of the previous period, giving priority, where possible, to methods (app, internet etc.) for booking access to the business.

Curfew: early closure of activities

The activities of food and beverage outlets in both public and private areas (including, by way of example, bars, pubs, restaurants, ice cream parlors, pastry shops, rotisseries, pizzerias, kiosks, mobile bars) are permitted from 5.00 to 23.00, with consumption at the table, and with a maximum of six people per table (cohabitants and spouses are not counted in this number), and up to 18.00 in the absence of consumption at the table. With the closure of public establishments at the appointed time, any administration to the patrons present must cease and the premises must be cleared. Catering with home delivery is always allowed in compliance with the hygiene and health regulations for both packaging and transport activities, as well as, until 11.00 pm, catering with take-away or drive-through mode, with a ban on consumption on the place or adjacent.

The so-called '24-hour' vending machines that distribute drinks and packaged foods, overlooking the public street, are closed from 6.00 to 5.00; this measure does not apply to vending machines for milk, milk products and water.

The prohibitions referred to in the previous points do not apply to the food and drink administration shops present on the motorway network, on ring roads and in airports.

It is forbidden to consume food and drinks in areas open to the public from 18.00 to 5.00. The consumption of alcoholic beverages of any strength is always prohibited in public areas including parks, gardens and villas open to the public.
