Bulleri disappears, "IL" Giacomo of the Milanese restaurant – Italian Cuisine

Everyone ate with him, Michelle Obama, Woody Allen, Maradona and Madonna, VIPs, gourmets, but above all the Milanese. The last goodbye, but his cuisine lives in his many Milanese brands, Da Giacomo. Here are all the places to go to remember it

Giacomo Bulleri died last night at the age of 94, a symbol of great Italian restaurants. In 2017 the New York Times titled full-page "The man who cooked for Italy". Giacomo, the man who cooked for Italy, and not only, given the innumerable international characters who have come and gone for more than sixty years on his premises.

Born in Collodi in Tuscany in 1925, he moved to Turin at a very young age, where he began working "in the workshop" and to understand the secrets of the mastery of Italian cuisine. In 1958 he opened his first restaurant in Milan, Trattoria Da Giacomo in Via Donizetti, where his philosophical vision of a culinary art takes shape, which, based on Italian tradition, is enriched with different ideas every time, always having as its essential fulcrum the quality of the raw material. In this place figures such as Callas, Kissinger, Versace, Mondadori, Montanelli, Letizia and Gianmarco Moratti have come and gone.

The meeting with the architect Mongiardino, which took place there in those years, marks a turning point for a new creative impulse in Giacomo's philosophy. It establishes the importance of the union between its now recognized vision of the kitchen and the importance of the care and aesthetics of the place that welcomes it. Two distinct universes that must dialogue together to create a 'perfect harmony. So, since 2009, they gradually arise in a fruitful union between Giacomo Tiziana's daughter and son-in-law Marco Monti with Studio Peregalli, other restaurants that, as defined by the NYT, "the most exquisite restaurants in Milan, if not the world" , confirm and continue his vision. Giacomo has always been present in these places. It was not rare, therefore, to meet him intent on observing every detail with a critical spirit and exchanging sagacious jokes with figures such as Franca Sozzani, Mike Bongiorno, Michelle Obama, Woody Allen, Maradona, Morgan Freeman, Mick Jagger, Madonna and Rania of Jordan who have become friends.

The locals

The character of Giacomo and his passion for cooking, with an obsessive attention to every detail, which led him to scold even the cooks of his premises without any concession, has brought his philosophy to become a universe that is it is expanded on the territory creating other meeting places in the city up to mark its presence in its Tuscany, last year, in the art city Pietrasanta. >> IN THE GALLERY ALL THE PREMISES

The awards

His faithful friend Elisabetta Sgarbi in 2013 wanted to consecrate her philosophy and her places with a book entitled "Ricette di vita". The world of Giacomo, applauded and recognized in Milan with the Ambrogino d'oro and the sign of Historical Shop of the Lombardy Region, continues with passion and skill through the work of Tiziana Bulleri and Marco Monti and represents a sort of exception in panorama of catering with a management that remains firmly familiar and Italian has a strong resonance in the world.
