The places of the Winter Olympics 2026

One of the decisive factors that made the choice fall on Italy was the proposal to use, for this huge event, a very large territory that includes even three regions: Lombardy, Veneto is Trentino Alto Adige. This division of the games, which can be achieved thanks to the presence of many existing systems, meets the demands of the IOC (International Olympic Committee), which is increasingly attentive to respect for the environment and the territory and to developing infrastructures. But Italy also won for its background of culture, history, artistic beauty and, of course, for its immense culinary tradition.

It will be the stadium Stadio Meazza di Milan to host the opening ceremony of the 2026 Olympics. One of the three Olympic villages will also be built in the Lombard capital: it will be a permanent structure that will be built in the area currently occupied by the disused freight yard in the Porta Romana district. At the end of the event the structure will probably become a university building. The other places in Milan are: the Mediolanum Forum in Assago, the PalaSharp in Lampugnano, a new building built in the Santa Giulia district, the Rho-Fiera exhibition area and Piazza Duomo for the awarding of competitions that will take place in Lombardy.
Moving on to the Lombardy Alps, here is the Stelvio slope a Bormio and the Mottolino, Sitas-Tagliede and Carosello 3000 areas of Livigno. Here, in Little Siberia, as Livigno is called, a second Olympic village will also be built, destined then to become an advanced training center for Italian athletes.
