10 wines to pair with the hamburger

Before combining the burger with the usual light beer, read here. And you won't feel it.

What happens when Italian wines meet one of the most famous American recipes? Of course, there is immediately a feeling, especially when it comes to beef and red wine.
Light wines or, at best, medium-bodied wines that do not cover too much the flavor of the meat and that go well with the sweetness of the bread and sauces go very well. But they are sparkling wines and sparkling wines are also interesting, able to cleanse the mouth from the greasiness of sauces and cheese. We looked for the most suitable, from the north to the south of Italy, finding the best companions both in very famous wines, such as Lambrusco or Chianti, and in some goodies to be discovered, such as Rossese di Dolceacqua.

Here are our choices:

Franciacorta Annamaria Clementi Rosé 2009 – Ca ’del Bosco
And who said that a good burger can't become a gourmet dinner to remember for a long time? Try combining it with this rosé bubble, one of the most exclusive ones produced in Italy. Its elegant effervescence will help to refresh the palate between mouthfuls and the pinot noir structure will perfectly accompany the beef.

Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Villa Gemma 2018 Masciarelli
A rosé of great structure from one of the most suitable regions of Italy for the production of these wines. It has intense aromas of pomegranate, black cherries and rose petals and an intense, fresh and balanced taste.

Lambrusco Grasparossa from Castelvetro Vineyard Cialdini 2018 – Cleto Chiarli
Lambrusco is a sparkling red wine produced in Emilia Romagna, one of the most joyful regions of Italy. The character of its inhabitants is also found in the glass: bubbly, delicious, with a flavor reminiscent of red fruits, it is perfect for dissolving the oiliness of the hamburger.

Il Borro 2015 Il Borro
A full and concentrated red, made with the international merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah vines, which here return all the essence of Tuscany. The aging in barrique gives softness and great elegance. Good immediately, it's even better with a few years of rest in the bottle.

Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso 2017 – Tommasi
This red from Veneto is the "younger brother" of Amarone: it is produced with the same grapes (corvina, rondinella and corvinone) and "ripassato" on the marcs of Amarone, as its name says. It has delicious hints of ripe cherry and spices, such as pepper; it is perfect to add a touch of flavor to the classic hamburger.

Barbera d’Alba 2017 Cordero di Montezemolo
Barbera is one of the most typical and famous wines of Piedmont. It has a medium body and a delicious acidity that allows it to accompany meat dishes, especially those rich in flavor such as hamburger.

Primitivo di Manduria Lirica 2017 Winery Manufacturers of Manduria
From southern Italy, a full-bodied and soft wine with an enveloping taste. It seems made to go with the beef topped with ketchup.

Chianti Rufina 2017 Selvapiana Farm
One of the most classic combinations, because in Tuscany this famous red is always accompanied by grilled meat. Choose a fresh one, such as those produced in the Rufina sub-area, which will also be perfect with sauces.

Pomino Pinot Nero 2017 Frescobaldi
Fruity, floral, fresh and balanced. These are the characteristics of this Tuscan Pinot Nero, which masterfully combines freshness and flavor with the warmth of alcohol. Medium-bodied, it is intriguing in its aromas of small fruits, sweet spices and toasted notes.

Rossese di Dolceacqua Superiore Posaù 2017 Maccario Dringenberg
Fresh, light and pleasant, this rare red from Liguria is also very popular with Hollywood stars and is often compared in body and ease of drinking to the pinot Noir from nearby Burgundy. Among the best of the denomination there are certainly those of the producer Giovanna Maccario. Posaù comes from a single vineyard and has spicy, iodine and slightly earthy notes. You will love it, not only in combination with the hamburger.
